Second Sonnet For a Turkey

That time of year thou may'st in me observe
When tattered shreds, or none, or few, do glimmer
Upon those bones which recently deserved
The name of TURKEY, now mere carcasses of dinner.

In me thou seest the twilight of such consumption
As after gorging fadeth in the West;
Surfeit of cranberry, pumpkin, and sage stuffin'
Producing belches, farting, and the rest.

In me thou seest the dowsing of such fire
That 'neath the dregs of many a keg doth lie,
Passed out upon the floor where it expired,
Consumed by those whom it was drunken by.

This thou enjoy'st which makes thy gait more hobbled:
To love that well which thou hast 'bibed and gobbled.
